Ha! I was just talking about this the other day with a friend. There’s even a photo of me facepalming (after!! washing!!! my hands!!!) out there, which is probably extra bad now that cases have sprung up in Austin. (I am extremely cabin fevery to the point where I can barely concentrate and I hate everything, FWIW.)
Whomst among us isn’t still
unconsciously
touching our faces right now? I know we shouldn’t! But it happens!

Welcome to this decade's unnecessary panic. At least we are getting it out of the way.

Id rather be home than work. People are getting looney at my work. We'll see a riot soon.
The only way I can stop touching is wearing gloves. Crazy even now.

Has anyone considered the possibility that this could just be the next stage of the planet’s evolution?
Coronavirus has already surpassed humans as the dominant lifeform, maybe it's just time for us to bow out entirely?

Slightly worse is .02 or .03% mortality rate, this is twice as contagious and 10 times more deadly than the flu. Yearly mortality rate of the flu is 6,515, that means that if we just go by those numbers (not the fact that there probably will be at least twice the amount of people infected with COVID-19) you’re looking at around 65, 150 deaths in the US from COVID-19. You need to seriously adjust your attitude.

If you’re fit and young, you don’t have to worry about yourself too much. However, if it is not contained, hospitals will not be able to handle the influx of sick people. People that need special equipment to aid breathing. If that happens, the mortality rate will explode. That’s the main issue here.
Additionally, many have parents or grandparents or other loved ones who are part of an at risk group.

Don’t panic. Do prepare. Society as we know it is not going to be the same for the next couple months at least.
I’ve fully stocked up my house to be able to not leave for a good few weeks. There’s a couple final errands I need to run today but otherwise that’s it. Even if you are not in a group that is likeliest to see severe symptoms, you could be infected, with no symptoms, and spread the disease to other people.

With that incubation period, and that they have no idea how many people don’t even show symptoms, everyone who is going to get sick will. Unless they declare martial law, which they wont as it is not fatal enough. Delay the spread, sure. But most everyone who will die from this is essentially dead anyway, as due to the magic of exponential growth, unless it is completely eradicated it will continue to flare up. Hence, my lack of seriouness regarding the situation.

If this was happening in a vacuum sure, but it’s not. The problem is people who don’t have it that require hospital visits, car accidents, heart attacks ect... If a hospital has no beds for them because it’s overwhelmed with people suffering from SARS -CoV-2 (yes, this is very closely related to SARS) induced by COVID-19, what is a serious but survivable health issue now becomes deadly. That’s what is happening in Italy right now, their hospital system is overwhelmed and the ripple effect is costing people their lives.

Mmm hmm. I read the news too. How does what you said contradict me? It isnt the bubonic plague 2. Its a somewhat worse flu thats causing a hospital shortage. It isn’t worth everyone losing their damn minds. The isolation will end, the virus will resuge. Then what? Isolate again? Extend the current isolation? Doesnt sound like there is a real plan to me.

No genius, it’s so we flatten the curve long enough
where we can get effective
treatments
in place to handle any resurgence. This is almost certainly
going to become a seasonal disease but until we have vaccines and medications to fight it, it needs to be treated with the seriousness it deserves.
Here is a information video for you to watch.

Again, you have not contradicted anything I have said, which is a necessity for an argument. My point remains that this is unsustainable.
